tape type

These are some of the experimentation's iv been trying at home really quickly to see how it works. i really like the tape its really quick and easy and the overall piece is effective and legible (which is always a good thing)
The words themselves are not relevant just simply words that i could do as i was just experimenting.
iv also used wire and paper to do similar things and think i would like to carry on using all these different medias and merge them together.

3D type - recognition

this 3D type is gorgeous very tactile and works very well as an image as well as text. i want to adopt this way of working for the recognition brief we have as i wan to work in a very personal handmade way and think that type would be very interesting to work with and could if i do it well.
this image feels quite personal with the name tags and parcel paper that we use on more special parcels to friends or family, or at least i do.

OUGD102 Self-Evaluation

1. What practical skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them?

At the end of this module I feel so much at ease with a camera, I was use to using photography but through my elective and now finally buying a DSLR I’m defiantly more capable, especially as we started with the 100 photographs even if they were tiny I was able to get loads of good quality images. Iv also become a lot more comfortable with the photography studios and the lighting areas which have given me more of an advantage when taking photographs for of and for my books. A
Also, the first few weeks of the module that we looked at research and how to look at different types of research that will actually help us with out work and not just bulk it up. I think iv really taken this on board and it ahs defiantly helped with the What If? Brief, and the Book of 100 brief as well. Iv also learnt how to use Indesign and expand more on photoshop which has been a big help with this Book project

2. What approaches to/methods of problem solving have you developed and how have they informed your design development process?

On the What If brief we researched thoroughly into out problem and what we could do about it, we took photographs before and after to see if any difference had been made, we also took survey results to get peoples opinions and then we gathered all that data and were able to produce resolutions that were effective.
Also documenting work on my blog, even if its just a few images and a few words iv found it really helpful because of the feedback that I get of there. The feedback sessions have been so much more useful to me this module and I think that has really helped progress my work further.

3. What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these?

My strengths have been in computer based work, iv done a lot of handmade work aswell but iv tried to use a more professional technique to finish things of such as my book of 100.
Also in photography, its definantly something I will always be expanding on and it will always be essential to my work and me as a designer.

4. What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these more fully?

One of my weakest points in the module has been motivation, it could just be Christmas in between but at the beginning of projects I found hard to make my self interested.
iv also not been updating my evaluations on my blog or tagging my posts which i just don’t do.

Next time I will . . .

1. keep up with research and try and do more secondary research
2. start writing lists and timetables for myself, and set aside time for blog
3. use the college studios more than I have been
4.

What is a Line

The album cover for Three Days Grace was what first ispired me with the cut out line of figures we all did when we were younger. i developed the idea to typography.

I cut out each letter on folded paper in the style of a handwritten typ face as i was also looking at the continious line of handwriting so i made it so they all joined up together when folded.

When unfolded they dont look like the letters anymore but still quite interesting shapes.

Im looking at a connected series of experiments with paper, stitch and wire and any other materials that will help me connect and use continous line.
After the presentations on Tusday, the work that stood out for the rest of the group was the cut out alphabet and the page of stitch line i did. im going to experiment more with this and see where it takes me, but i deffinantly want to keep with typography rather than images. i will be looking at ways to connect the letter forms and ways in which they work together as one piece or seperate pieces fitting together.

Ebon Heath

Ebon Heath has done some amazing type sculpture work they are all on his website but iv managed to get a few here. but its deffinantly worth checking out

sock-abet

Iv been doing this ALL day and im really pleased with it! iv used the shape of 4 socks and produced a typeface, then i got 26 swatches from my sock and put the pattern behind each letter to make it more fun to give it some colour. i think they work really well but they might be a bit complicated in a childrens book, if i do use them in my 'Book of 100'.

Photography Elective

These are a few photos from my Digital Photography Elective, my part time job is decorating cards for a small card company called Wendy Jones-Blackett, so the past few weeks iv been photograhing the cards in the process from decorating to packaged up. They are all Macro photography and in the final book they will be squared of and full bleed of the page. iv tried not to manipulate them much on photoshop but as i got a new camera half way through it took me a while to get use to the different settings and some came out too dark or to bright but hopefully the difference in unnoticable now.

Book of 100 . . . bags

This is a book of 100 bags. its got the profiles of 100 people and the whole contents of their bag, why would this sell? because we really are nosie, people say never go into a womans bag and so a little book like this could be very amusing.

Eric Staller

These images asolutly fasinate me, these are a few of the light drawings from Eric Staller. although im not doing light for my What is a Line project they are deffinantly relevant to some of you. iv never tried any light drawing so the illusion of this is still quite pure for me that i dont know how hes done this, but there is now doubt they are beautiful.
